The canvas suitcase as WW2-imposed Italian sanctions hampered leather craftsmanship, Guccio Gucci began to explore alternative materials such as hemp and cotton, and the now-iconic tonal-brown patterned GG canvas was born.
This piece is one of first original GG canvas pieces designed by Guccio Gucci in the 1930s. Recently acquired at an antique collector's auction house, this 1930s beauty was professionally restored on the inside and out. The leather base, trim & handles were meticulously finished & sealed in metallic sapphire blue. This beauty is rare and one of a kind. The historical background of this piece is overwhelming and just imagine the stories it could tell.
The original luggage tag is still attached and the solid brass hardware still shines which show real authentic Gucci style from a bygone era.
The lock displays Gucci and the combination is not available, but this beauty opens and closes. The original lining is crafted in red leather with a zippered pocket (The zipper does not close). The snap closure is secure and some fraying is on the corners of canvas. Can be carried as a vanity train case, an overnight travel bag or kept as a collector’s piece.
